Don’t miss July8th, Ortiz vs. Stanionis

While the Boxing world is completely fixated on a state of welterweight division and an upcoming July, 29th unification fight between Terrence Crawford and Errol Spence, Jr to decide once and for all who is the current king of this division, the future for welterweights might be just as bright and might just be decided three weeks earlier on July 8th when two unbeaten prize fighters, Virgil Ortiz Jr (19-0,19KO’S) and Eimantas Stanionis (14-0,9KO’S) face off in the squared circle.

This mouthwatering encounter has already been postponed twice. March 18th date was nixed due to Stanionis’s appendectomy surgery in January. April 29th was also rescheduled due to Ortiz’ ailment and complications with Covid. Will the third time be a charm?

The 147 pounds contest is set to take place at  AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas on July 8th. It will be televised live on DAZN.

Rising star from Texas Virgil Ortiz Jr has faced nineteen opponents in the pro ranks so far. None of them were able to hear a final bell standing up. That’s a perfect knock out record. The only other fighter with ironically exactly the same record is a light heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev. Ortiz Jr. is not yet a champion, but he is on the verge of becoming one. In his way is an opponent number 20, undefeated Lithuanian bad ass, Eimantas Stanionis who might not be as powerful but just as determined and hungry as Virgil Ortiz.

Spence and Crawford promise fans an action fight on July 29th. However somewhere in the back of my mind I have tingling anxieties that it might turn into a high stakes tactical boxing match. I do not have such trepidations when it comes to July 8th encounter. Both Ortiz and Stanionis are aggressive offensive machines. I have not seen either one of them take a step back in their previous fights. Therefore dare I say, I promise you fistic fireworks to celebrate 4th of July Independence Day weekend.

I cannot imagine any scenario in which this fight would not be explosive. “It’s going to be a very good fight,” promised Stanionis during his interview with Fight Hype:” You know, two young guys fighting. Both come forward and fans will be winners.”

As far as his opponent Virgil Ortiz Jr, Stanionis remarked:”He is a very good fighter. He is dangerous. He is explosive, but I have a plan to beat him”

But as Mike Tyson once said:” Everyone one has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

Even if you can only see one fight in the month of July, don’t miss this one.
